Tell us why Zoom Vacations is so special:
When we look at other tour company’s tours to various destinations, they may have different guides or are using a few different hotels, but they generally look very similar to each other. Zoom Vacations tours are unique for a number of reasons. Zoom Vacations creates special events in all the destinations that we visit, so in that sense, we operate much like a special event company. For instance, during our tour to Rio de Janeiro, we organize a beach party which we call our Zoom Beach Oasis. There are white cabanas with lounge furniture, billowing lines, a dj, open bar and food all day, and the sexiest security guards you’ve ever seen, clad in bikinis. When we arrive at the location, it’s just an open beach, and we bring in the entire setup. Our guests can optionally choose to enter the party via hang-glider, which is really exciting. These Zoom Signature events are meant to be memorable, inspirational, and over-the-top, and they are definitely a favorite part of our tours. In addition to these events, every Zoom Vacations tour is highly customized, based on who is on the trip, and our attention-to-detail is a major hallmark of our tours. We get to know our travelers before the tour, so we can find special ways throughout the tour to enhance their experience.
Lastly, myself or Zoom’s co-owner, Joel Cabrera are on every tour, ensuring that every tour, activity, event, etc. is as great as possible.
What can guests expect on a Zoom Vacations tour?
Our travelers can expect a thoroughly researched and planned experience, enjoying the best hotels, restaurants, sites, etc. that the destination has to offer. Joel or I will be on the tour to make sure that things are running well and to ensure the high attention to detail that our travelers have come to expect from a Zoom Vacations tour.
Why is travel important to a fulfilling life?
There is a direct relationship between living a limited life and having a limited outlook on life in general. Aldous Huxley has a great quote that I love: “To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries. “ If you only stay in your one little corner of the world, you’ll likely have a skewed view of other places, and your life will be much less dynamic, and you will miss out on experiences and aspects of life you will never know existed. I equate it to spending your life eating the same foods every day, never knowing that your favorite food is something you haven’t even tasted yet, and will never taste, because you won’t give it a shot. Traveling awakens our passions and our zest for life.
Is LGBT / gay travel safe?
As an LGBT person traveling in certain destinations, such as Uganda and certain countries in the Middle East, I advise exercising more caution. That being said, there are countries and cities where an LGBT person will feel more comfortable than in their home country. I notice that many people in America will often assume that other countries are more dangerous in general, and this simply isn’t often the case. The truth is that most destinations in the world are safe for LGBT people, but homophobia exists in every country and in every city. My rule of thumb for any traveler is to practice mindfulness and discretion while traveling, but don’t let fear get in the way of your journey.
Do you offer any naturist or nudist travel opportunities?
We have not offered naturist or nudist travel opportunities, but there is still time. If we ever do this, it will be done with the same sensitivity, fun, and professionalism with which we approach all of our tours.
