Photographic Artist Gianni Gianorso Rauso Shares His Love Of Italy, Photography, The Nude Body And Body- Positivity
Interview By Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong How did you fall in love with photography as an art form? It happened in the early 1980’s. I was in my twenties and started to buy magazines about photography. The French PHOTO and the Italian version of the same magazine were where all the great photographers were featured monthly. It was my occasion to look closely at some works that were in international exhibitions but not in Italy. That is the beginning of my photography archive and the development of a personal taste in creating my own photos which I started in summer 1985 when I bought my first proper analogical camera. What inspires you as a photographer? The human body represented in all its forms and techniques. I am a passionate art fanatic and I am so lucky to live in Rome, a city that has so many beautiful museums and churches where it is possible to admire the original works of Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Bernini, Canova and so many more. What is special about photographing male nudes? I photograph what I love and what I am passionate about. So it came natural for me to photograph the naked statutes of the big fountains in my city and then the naked male bodies. Why is it important to you to photograph all body shapes and sizes? Because the body is political nowadays more than ever. The continuous censorship of nudes on apps like Instagram and similar, the pressure from media about an “ideal” body creating so many troubles in younger generations and frustrations in aging people is something that fuels my desire to shoot more and more nude bodies. I personally consider the #bodypositivity something that has to do with all kind of bodies not only with big guys and girls. Do you have a website where people can view your photographic art? Yes, sure! Here are the links: Official webpage: https://www.gianorso.com My Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gianorso/ My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/houseofgianorso/ |
