The clothing-optional gay men's resort right in the heart of Wilton Manors
By Steven Skelley & Thomas Routzong
Fort Lauderdale is world-famous as a gay vacation hotspot and Wilton Manors is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Fort Lauderdale for gay men. While many of the resorts that cater to gay clientele are beachside across the causeway, there is one clothing-optional gay men's resort right in the heart of Wilton Manors. It is called The Cabanas Guesthouse & Spa and it is one of our favorite places to stay in Wilton Manors.
Setting
Many resorts advertise their "lush, tropical" grounds. In the case of The Cabanas Guesthouse, it is actually true! The place is beautiful!
The award-winning resort offers a 10 man jacuzzi set in a gorgeous courtyard overlooking one of Fort Lauderdale's famous canals, kayaks, an aroma-therapy steam room, poolside cabanas, outdoor showers, free wifi, an internet cafe, a DVD library and two swimming pools including one that is a salt water pool.
The Cabanas Guesthouse & Spa has another very welcome asset - it is a secure site. Access to the resort is through a security gate that requires an access code to enter. We enjoyed the secure feeling that our vehicle was inside the gate and safe during the night.
If you enjoy clothing-optional recreation as we do, The Cabanas Guesthouse & Spa is an excellent choice. Whether you are enjoying time in the pools, jacuzzi or anywhere in between, this is a very comfortable place to stroll nude.
The Spa
The Spa is "a European style, full-service day spa." Their services include massage therapy, body treatments, hair removal, facials, and foot care. Walk-ins are welcome.
Guest Rooms
The first thing we said when we were escorted to our guest room was, "This is definitely a step above much of the competition."
Our suite's decor was done in a clean and fresh, white based theme. White walls and white tile floors provide a beautiful contrast to the dark wood furniture and drapes.
Our unit had almost an entire wall that was made up of a sliding glass door that overlooked the canal. It was both a romantic and relaxing view from our king sized bed.
Our unit came with a kitchenette that included a full-sized refrigerator, stove, microwave, sink, coffee maker, and a table and two chairs.
Continental Breakfast
During our visit to The Cabanas Guesthouse, the continental breakfast included coffee, orange juice, grape juice, apple juice, a variety of cereals, oatmeal, yogurt, sticky buns, bagels, assorted pastries, powdered donuts, muffins, apples and bananas. In a very welcome, classy touch, guests could enjoy their breakfast on clear glass plates instead of the styrofoam disposables you usually find at other establishments.
Staff
The staff at The Cabanas Guesthouse was exceptionally friendly. Whether we were in the pool, in the jacuzzi or enjoying breakfast on the patio, everyone who passed by stopped to say hello or wished us a very cheerful good morning.
The friendly attitude is not an accident. Owners John Dorry and Bill Barnish are proud of their customer service. “We like to say that we have the friendliest staff in town,” Dorry told us.
