Gorgeous Ladies of Wresting – From their Netflix tv series to Comic-Cons to cruises, GLOW keeps entertaining 80s style!
By Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong
When we received a note from stuntwoman / GLOW GIRL Jeanne (Hollywood) Basone telling us about cruises featuring lady wrestlers, we knew we had to hear more.
Basone has an impressive stunt resume. She’s appeared on J.A.G., Quantum Leap, Married With Children, Days Of Our Lives and even The Gong Show.
We asked her to tell us all about the Gorgeous Ladies of Wresting.
How would you describe GLOW in one sentence?
Ahead of their time.
How did GLOW begin?
From the masterminds of director Matt Cimber and the wrestling promoter David Mclane. They came together to make a wrestling/variety show!
Matt comes from a theatrical background and David a wrestling background.
They held auditions in 1985 at the Hyatt on Sunset and we’re looking for 12 girls to do a pilot. At the audition there were over 500 girls. I was one of the girls that made that cut.
While I was doing my 8 to 5 day job, I was learning how to wrestle three times a week 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. My trainer was the infamous Mondo Guerrero.
We shot the pilot December 5, 1985 at the Riviera hotel and took it to NATPE in New Orleans 1986.
One month later, they told me to pack my bags and move to Las Vegas because the show got picked up!
Why was the TV series so popular?
I think it was popular because there was nothing like it on TV back then. All we had was maybe Wonder Woman to watch. We were the first all-female wrestling show on television!
We had awesome outfits and glittery make up!! We also performed rap songs on tour before we performed our matches. Children and young males loved our show!
What can you tell us about the upcoming GLOW cruise?
The Glow Cruise is the fourth one we have done with cruise planners. We charter a ship like Carnival or NCL.
Every day is something different. We have theme nights. We have all kinds of contests. We have dinner with our fans every night at 5:30 p.m.
The Glow ladies will host excursions where the fans can join them at the ports. Last year I hosted Dirty Bingo. Lightning hosted all the sports-oriented activities.
The day before we will host a pre-party for the fans and the girls before we head out.
We will be departing on May 18, 2019 out of Long Beach and we will go to three ports, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazatlan and will return to Long Beach on May 25, 2019.

What plans does GLOW have for the future?
GLOW has always been about the fans. We have been doing L A. Comic-Con, Rhode Island Comic-Con, Stan Lee Comic-Con and Ru Paul.
L. A. Comic-Con will be in October. Road Island in November.
A few of the other ladies are doing a GLOW musical in October!
I’ve been invited to www.bigeventny.com in November and WrestleCon in April.
And, of course, the GLOW Cruise is May 18, 2019
