Pride means different things to different people, but at its core, it’s about embracing what makes everyone unique. As Pride Festival season approaches, LGBTQ+ communities and travelers around the world gather to celebrate everything special about themselves.
Long Beach, California is a great destination to celebrate Pride this summer. Not only is Long Beach in sunny Southern California, but also home to one of the largest LGBTQ+ communities in the country. The city is proud of their community, and even elected their first openly gay mayor.
Travelers will have plenty to do this summer with the 2nd largest Pride festival in the country, prominent nightlife, acclaimed LGBTQ+ film festival and even various family friendly activities. Below are more details of events.
Long Beach Pride Festival
The 35th Annual Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Celebration Festival is from May 19-20. This year’s theme is “Remember the Past, Create the Future.”
· Over the past several years, the festival has become one of the premiere Pride events nationwide now attracting over 80,000 participants over two days.
· The Festival Celebration includes six large dance areas including a main stage which has featured musical artists such as Grammy Award Winner Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, Chaka Kahn, Maya, India.Arie., and Village People.
Nightlife
Long Beach’s Broadway Corridor is a stretch of iconic gay bars located near the beach. Most of these bars are located within walking distance of each other.
QFilm Festival
· Every September, The QFilm Festival annually presents narrative features, documentaries and short films that embody the rich diversity and experiences of LGBTQ communities.
· More than 1,500 people attend each year to savor a mix of West Coast, Southern California and local premieres as well some of the most acclaimed features on the film festival circuit.
Family Friendly
· Along with the Pride festival being on May 19-20, Long Beach will host a Teen Pride festival on May 18th.
· Families can also take tours through the world’s largest ocean at the Aquarium of the Pacific or world-class attractions including the legendary Queen Mary ocean liner and WWII troopship.

- Paradise, a full restaurant and piano bar. Paradise’s building is from 1929, which showcases antique pieces of Old Long Beach intertwined with a modern chic style.
