We asked the Out & Out Club to tell us all about it.
In one sentence, what is Out & Out Club Jamboree?
Jamboree is a fun-filled week of summer camp for LGBTQ campers, run by Toronto's nonprofit recreational group, Out and Out.
Why is this event important to LGBTQ (and all) citizens?
Jamboree creates a safe space for LGBTQ campers to explore many of the summer camp activities we know and love from childhood - from canoeing and kayaking, to arts and crafts and campfires. The camp is diverse, playful and irreverent, and has become a much loved event by Toronto's LGBTQ community.
What can you tell us about the lodgings and amenities at Out & Out Club Jamboree?
Classic summer camp lodging, with waterfront cabins and bunk beds, house the campers for Jamboree. All campers receive a full bunk (top and bottom.) Cabins have running water and toilet facilities.
The camp is set on a private lake, with beautiful docks, personal watercraft, and inflatable water toys to share. The camp additionally has beach volleyball, baseball, tennis, hockey, and other recreational facilities, as well as a theatre which stages the big talent show at the end of the week. A large dining hall hosts campers for meals and late night board games.
When and where is Out & Out Club Jamboree?
Jamboree is typically held the last full week of August, at a summer camp in Haliburton, Ontario, about 3 hours north of Toronto.
