NKD Training – Nude Fitness In London
NKD Training – Nude Fitness In London
By Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong
Everyone would like to be a little more fit. If exercise makes you feel better and nudity makes you feel comfortable, NKD Training in London, England has the perfect classes for you.
We asked Founder / Owner / Fitness Instructor / Personal Trainer Paul Bates to tell us more.
How would you describe NKD Training in one sentence?
NKD Training provides great exercise classes and fitness holidays in a liberating naturist environment. Exercise makes you feel good, naked exercise makes you feel awesome!
Why is nudism / naturism an important and healthy choice?
Well, it’s not for everyone, and in some ways it’s like being in any group or club, it makes you feel part of something and it’s usually very welcoming to everyone.
Irrespective of background, income or status we’re all in the same boat when we’re naked together – so it’s a great leveller.
A lot of people hide behind their clothes, their car, or whatever to portray an image, but by being naked that all falls away and everyone is equal.
It sounds strange, but naturism can also help with self esteem and body image. When you see a group together all naked you realize we all come in different shapes and sizes, no-one is perfect or better than anyone else, we’re just all different. I’ve met guys who would never even take their shirt off on a beach because of body image problems, but feel perfectly ok in a naturist environment. It gradually changes perception of your own body so you can be more comfortable in your own skin all the time.
On top of that it just feels great being naked, feeling the air on your skin, no restriction of movement from clothes, people just seem to come alive when they shed their clothes and get the sense of liberation that nudity can give.
What is special about your NKD Training?
I believe that it’s not good enough to just offer a nudist activity as a gimmick. I don’t make any allowances for the fact that it’s naked, I just make sure I provide a well-planned, professionally run fitness class or event that is challenging and energetic.
I try to make the NKD classes as fun and motivating as any other class I run, with a variety of styles, including exercise to music , circuits, team games and other things. And the music really adds to the classes, most people probably don’t realize the amount of work that goes into planning music for the sessions, it’s almost like the whole hour is choreographed every week.
We’ve managed to create a unique environment, a full gym where guys can be naked, train on the equipment and join in a full fitness class wearing nothing but their training shoes. The guys are all friendly, they come from diverse range of backgrounds (and nationalities) and irrespective of body shape, age or fitness level everyone feels welcome.
Who attends NKD Training?
As I said before it’s guys of all ages and fitness levels. The classes are carefully designed to give everyone a good workout and offer the chance for all guys to work at their own level.
It’s all men. Initially we made the sessions mixed but didn’t get any female attendees. I was asked a few times by girls if they would be the only one if they came along and I had to be honest and say “yes, probably unless you come with someone else”. We also got a few odd straight guys who were obviously there just to try to see naked girls exercising, they went away disappointed!
I made the decision early on to make it men-only, as it better reflects the make-up of the class and removes any doubt about who will be there. That actually makes the guys feel more at ease knowing it’s going to be just guys.
Most of the guys are gay or bi, so although we aim it for all sexualities it does tend to be gay guys who come along. It’s totally nonsexual so straight guys would be welcome too, but I suppose the way I now market the sessions does make it appeal to gay guys. Being gay myself I’ve advertised in the gay press and websites so I guess that has an impact, but I suspect it would be the case anyway. Naked men in a gym is going to appeal to us!
When I decided to do the NKD Training holiday in Gran Canaria, I decided to aim it directly to gay and bi guys, so we stay in a clothing optional gay resort. It works really well and we all feel like a big family away on holiday together for a week.
We also have a Yoga instructor so we get guys into yoga, fitness classes, and some who just come along for the social aspect.
What plans do you have for the future?
Weekly classes in London are enough for me at the moment, but I’d really like to expand the holiday side. It’s amazing taking a group of guys away, and I’m so proud to have instigated some real friendships. Ultimately I see us doing 3 or 4 trips a year to different places, and I’m looking into sailing with fitness, yoga and social activities included.
