Bringing World Class Live Entertainment to Florida’s Space Coast
By Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong
For nearly thirty years, The Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, Florida has been bringing world class live entertainment to the Space Coast. Whether your entertainment of choice is Broadway musicals, plays, symphonies, opera, blues, jazz, dance, children's theatre, comedy, drama, ballet, pop, rock, country, lectures, or family shows, there is no better place to enjoy it.
We’ve laughed through Young Frankenstein and Menopause: The Musical. We’ve immersed ourselves in the stylings of musical icons Willie Nelson, Vince Gill and Beatle Ringo Starr. We’ve marveled at STOMP and The Golden Dragon Acrobats. Each and every time, The Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts opens its doors, something wonderful happens. We’ve seen it.
We asked Autumn Shrum - Director of Marketing & Public Relations for The King Center for the Performing Arts – about the 2017 calendar of events.
How does The King Center choose such a diverse selection of high quality shows and artists each and every year?
“Our executive director, Steve Janicki, programs the shows at the King Center. He has a very challenging job, considering the variety of artists and productions on tour, and the diversity of our community. We hope there is something on our calendar for everyone to enjoy!” Shrum told us.
How does it make you personally feel seeing children sitting in awe and the smiles on the faces of families who attend shows like The Golden Dragon Acrobats?
“That is such a great feeling! Seeing children and adults having fun at the King Center is why we do what we do. The performing arts not only entertain and inspire, but above all they improve the quality of life in Brevard County. We are fortunate to be able to present world-class performing arts at the King Center year after year,” Shrum said.
