Key West to Host Annual Womenfest Sept. 4-8
The subtropical island of Key West, renowned for its all-welcoming diversity, is to host thousands of women during the annual Womenfest celebration scheduled Wednesday through Sunday, Sept. 4-8.
Renowned as one of North America’s largest gatherings of lesbians and their friends, the event is to include festivities on land and sea. They range from spirited daytime pool parties and picturesque sunset dinner sails to late-night dance parties.
The popular gathering features a warm and welcoming vibe designed to foster the camaraderie of like-minded women, while also showcasing the attractions of the internationally acclaimed lesbian and gay vacation destination.
The action-packed Womenfest schedule launches with an evening gala set for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Alexander’s Guesthouse, 1118 Fleming St.
Scheduled festival highlights include a fundraising contest and show titled “Real Women Do Drag,” women’s flag football clinics and scrimmage, a women-only sunset tea dance and dinner cruise with musical favorites Sister Funk, the intriguingly named Drunken Drag Brunch and the White Party with headliner DJ Citizen Jane.
