Our interview with Roger Gindi
By Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong
HAMILTON: AN AMERICAN MUSICAL has won just about every award that can be won. It has been one of the most sought after Broadway tickets in recent years. Now, Forbidden Broadway creator Gerrard Allessandrini has created a parody that has audiences laughing. It’s called SPAMILTON!
We interviewed General Manager Roger Gindi about SPAMILTON.
Describe SPAMILTON in one sentence:
The creator of FORBIDDEN BROADWAY lovingly skewers Broadway's biggest hit.
What can you tell us about the music of SPAMILTON:
Gerard Alessandrini has written parody lyrics to many of HAMILTON's best-known songs, as well as Broadway standards from Sondheim, Berlin, Lloyd Webber and others.
Why are spoofs so popular?
Because they take what we know and turn it on its side so we see it from a different, comic, angle.
What can you tell us about the cast of SPAMILTON?
Some of the most talented young performers I have ever seen. None were members of Actors Equity when they were cast. They have since joined the union when the show was extended.
How did you become involved in SPAMILTON?
I've known Gerard Alessandrini and David Zippel, one of the producers, for manmy years. They invited me to one of their early performances.. I loved it. When they decided to extend, they hired me as General Manager.
SPAMILTON is playing at the Triad Theater.
