Triangle Inn - Award-winning, historic Palm Springs Resort
By Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong
Palm Springs, California is a place we could visit again and again. It has a long history as a well-known gay tourist destination.
Palm Springs has an inclusive, welcoming vibe, excellent entertainment and dining options, beautiful views and a variety of quality gay resorts to choose from.
We asked Michael C. Green, co-owner of Triangle Inn Palm Springs to tell us more.
How would you describe your property in one sentence?
The Triangle Inn Palm Springs is an award-winning, and historic Palm Springs Resort, with a special flair for Southern (California) hospitality.
What is special about your property and your guests?
The Triangle Inn Palm Springs offers guests a private walled enclave where they can relax and be themselves. We are not for people who want an anonymous vacation. When people stay with us, we get to know them, and they, in turn, get to know us, and the other guests.
The owners (Michael and Stephen) and the Hotel Manager (David) all live on the property. We like to interact with our guests, often forming friendships that last for years.
We also enjoy sharing things to do with our guests, whether it’s telling them about a little-known hike, sharing a favorite place for dinner or suggesting the best shops to explore downtown.
What accommodations are available at your property?
We offer guests a choice of eight elegantly-appointed suites within the hotel grounds. All our accommodations are tastefully appointed, and feature the comforts of home - fully equipped kitchens or kitchenettes, large baths with top quality linens, plenty of closet space, private reading libraries, and TVs, DVD players and Stereos.
A generous breakfast is served poolside each morning and afternoon mixers provide the perfect setting for meeting fellow guests and making new friends.
We try to make everything we do very special and unique.
What activities and special events are available at your property?
We offer nude yoga retreats periodically, special hiking trips and adventures out and around Palm Springs and in the nearby national and state parks.
We have special weekends especially for naturist groups and literally provide everything so they never need to put on clothes or leave the property.
We have reading libraries in every room, have games of all types for guests to enjoy, and have an outdoor lounge area where guests can relax and watch television.
Why are gay resorts important?
Gay resorts, especially gay resorts for men, are still important, because they provide safe spaces for gay men to hang out, relax and be affectionate. Lots of places are “gay friendly” or “gay welcoming,” but it’s just not the same.
One example: my husband and I were walking down Duvall Street in Key West. We were not holding hands or anything. A car drove by and a guy stuck his head out and said “F***ing Faggots!” Now if that can happen there, it can happen anywhere.
Sometimes those of us who live in relatively safe urban environments fool ourselves into believing that’s reality. It isn’t.
Another example: we had a couple of friends, gay men, who were staying at a mainstream hotel that was “gay-friendly.” They were being affectionate by the pool and a woman came up to them complaining that her children could see them and “they” did not approve.
My point is that there is still a need for places where gay men can gather and feel completely safe.
Beyond that is the need for places where gay men can gather and enjoy naturism.
Conclusion
