My Boston Scientific Tantra Penile Implant For Peyronies Fibrosis Disease and Erectile Dysfunction

You’ve probably seen the television commercials with the bent carrots. They are an advertisement for treatment of Peyronies Fibrosis Disease which bends and disables the penis. In 2022, I became a victim of this emasculating disease. This is my story.
It all began in 2012 when I noticed hard, painful bumps and hard cords growing in the palms of my hands. I was soon diagnosed with Dupuytren’s Contracture Fibrosis. It is also known as Viking Disease. Dupuytren’s Contracture Fibrosis is a hereditary disease.

Over time, the cords and bumps grew. My palms were extremely painful to the touch. My fingers began to curl inward toward my palm never to straighten again. The pain when my bent fingers were bumped was intense.
In the next nine years, a number of hand specialists would try to remove the fibroids through four Xiaflex injections and finally two surgeries. The Xiaflex injections were not successful for me because the fibroids always returned in three to six months. My surgeons always joked that I should be thankful the fibroids hadn’t attacked my penis as well.

My surgeons always joked that I should be thankful the fibroids hadn’t attacked my penis as well.
About two months after my third knee replacement in 2022, I found two lumps on the top of my penis shaft. I made an appointment with my doctor. He diagnosed me as having Peyronies Fibrosis Disease and referred me to a Urologist. By the time I saw the Urologist, my penis had more changes that frightened me.
Since the age of sixteen, my penis erection had been a little over six inches long with a slight upward curve.
Since the age of sixteen, my penis erection had been a little over six inches long with a slight upward curve.
In 2022, the upward curve was gone and my erection began bending to my right. Then a divot about one quarter inch deep appeared on the right side. Then the top of my glans or penis head began to bend forward as well. The two painful lumps that had been the first thing that appeared had now grown to three lumps. My erection was also getting shorter.
Over the next several months, my Urologist did a variety of tests including an erection ultrasound. For the erection ultrasound, a technician gave me two injections into the base of my penis shaft. When he returned fifteen minutes later, I had an erection which he was able to ultrasound. The Urologist was able to identify the Peyronies Fibrosis cords and lumps and divot as well as new issues affecting my blood flowing in and out of my penis. I became very worried about Neuropathy. I also found that my erections were not as firm nor were they lasting as long.
My Urologist had me try massaging Vitamin E oil into the cords and bumps for several months. Unfortunately, this didn’t change the cords, lumps or divot.
Next, my Urologist had me purchase a Vacuum Pump. I found one on Amazon.com for under $30. At his direction, I began using it nightly to attempt to stretch my penis back to its original length and girth. The pump was uncomfortable and sometime painful to use but my penis did seem to be stretching more toward my former size. But now the pain from the fibroids was also affecting my erections.

We also discussed surgery and Xiaflex options. After discussing my negative results with Xiaflex in my hands, we ruled that option out.
He described the surgery and the possibility of the cords and lumps growing back. Then we’d have to repeat the surgery as often as the cords grew back so I ruled that option out. I told him I wanted a solution that would only take one surgery.
Finally, my Urologist discussed Penile Implants with me. He said that a penile implant would overpower the bending fibroid cords for the rest of my life. We discussed the Malleable Penile Implant which would make my penis erect twenty-four hours a day for the rest of my life. We also discussed a Pump Penile Implant in which a squeeze reservoir in installed behind the testicles. When an erection is desired, I would squeeze the reservoir and the implant would inflate making the penis fully erect.
My Urologist said that the Malleable Penile Implant almost never failed or needed repair. It should truly be the one-surgery solution I was hoping for. Being fully erect all the time would also nearly guarantee that the Peyronies Fibrosis cords could no longer bend my penis shaft. I made my decision and surgery was set for July 2023.
My Urologist chose the Boston Scientific Tantra Penile Implant. Surgery took three hours. Afterward I was kept in the hospital overnight. My penis stood straight up and was wrapped like a mummy with only my penis glans or head visible. There was a row of stitches just under my penis shaft where the implant had been installed. Anesthesia and pain medications kept the pain at a tolerable level in the hospital.

After removing the gauze, the Urologist released me to go home. My penis was straight and erect but I mentioned to the Urologist’s Assistant that it looked shorter and thinner than I was before Peyronies and even smaller than when I used the Vacuum Pump to stretch it back out.
I spent the next two weeks inside my home and in my back yard. My penis felt very bruised which is understandable. It was difficult finding a position to sleep comfortably without bumping my sore penis. I often woke in the middle of the night after accidentally rolling onto my painful erection. During the day, at the advice of another penile implant survivor, I simply lived without pants on at all. If I did wear underwear, I let my painful erection stick out through the front.

I saw the Urologist after two weeks. He seemed pleased with the progress and told me that I should be pain free in another three weeks. The Urologist said that in three weeks, I’d be able to bend my penis up, down or straight out.
I mentioned again that I was concerned about the loss of length and girth. He told me that the Peyronies Fibrosis cords had affected my size and he had installed the largest implant that he was able to. (My friends that had chosen the inflatable implant had retained their size.) I was discouraged by my now smaller penis.
Three weeks after surgery, my pain was lessening and my stitches incision was almost healed and closed. I could now wear very loose shorts. My constant erection stuck straight out in my shorts. Hiding it was impossible. It was still too sensitive to bend. When I needed to go out in public, I wore a long shirt that hung down far enough to conceal the erection bulge in my shorts.
My Urologist had strongly advised me against sex with a partner yet. He thought it would damage my unhealed penis. I followed his advice. I did not have sex with a partner but I did manage four orgasms through very delicate masturbation.
At four weeks after surgery, my penis was almost completely pain free. I have become accustomed to having a never-ending erection. I am now able to position my penis implant up, down and straight out without difficulty. I am now finding my mood quite high. I am fully convinced that I made the correct decision now that the pain is gone. For me, wearing tight underwear is uncomfortable and binding. I wear loose fitting shorts (I live in Florida where it is always shorts weather). I am comfortable if I position my penis either down or up. The incision beneath my shaft is healed except for an area less than half an inch.

At five weeks after surgery, I had a visit with my Urologist Surgeon. He declared me healed and released me to be seen only on an as-needed basis. The pain is almost completely gone. There is a slight tenderness in my glans / head where the two implant rods end. There is a slight pressure when I sit or stand that I feel between my scrotum and perineum. My Urologist said that is normal for this point in the healing process and soon I would be pain free. The discomfort in the glans / head area is because that is where the implant rods end and the slight pressure that I feel between my scrotum and perineum is from there the rods begin at my pelvic bone. My three friends who have also had penile implants have told me to expect to be pain free between six and eight weeks post surgery. I have now enjoyed six orgasms by gentle masturbation with lubricant. Everything works!

I am very satisfied with my Boston Scientific Tantra Penile Implant for Peyronies Fibrosis Disease and Erectile Dysfunction. Even though my penis does not look exactly like the penis I’ve had since age sixteen, my new always erect penis works perfectly and looks fine. I would have the surgery again if presented with the same issues.

My friend Mac has the penile implant with a pump.
Mac shared this video of how his penile implant works to create erections on demand. He has had his for over eight years. We hope that this video will help men who suffer from Erectile Dysfunction and / or Peyronie's Fibrosis Disease.
